Valentine Heart Cinnamon Rolls

Taking a hint from our Snowman Cinnamon Rolls, we decided to try Valentine Heart Cinnamon Rolls!  No, I don’t make cinnamon rolls from scratch.  You’re going to be amazed at how easy these heart cinnamon rolls really are!

You start with a can of these:

Yep, just good ol’ Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls – make sure you get the Butter Cream Frosting Flaky Cinnamon Rolls (yellow band around the can).  This is important! There are kinds that don’t fluff up as much and you’ll have a disaster.   Just ask our Pumpkin-shaped Cinnamon Rolls.

Arrange them on a pan like so:

If you do it just right, you’ll use up all eight rolls – five rolls in the middle like normal and three unrolled to make the edges of the heart.  It’ll take a creative squishing to get the top just right.  And be sure to pinch the bottom ends together.

And listen, I know it probably doesn’t look terribly pretty, but I put foil over my pan and spray the foil with cooking spray before I place the rolls.  No stick.  No mess. Easy clean up.  Because we’re #reallife over here.

Bake per the directions on the can.

You will need the cream cheese from the can so DON’T eat any of it.  Ok, so maybe just a taste while the rolls are baking…

We strive to be a food dye free household – especially Red 40.  But we want fun, colored food sometimes.  Thanks to McCormick, we can!  This is a favorite item in our house:

Using McCormick Nature’s Inspiration Food Colors , I was able to color the icing pink.   I’ve since discovered that you can get natural food dyes in a liquid form so I’m excited to check those out soon.

When it’s cool enough, spread the icing over the top and enjoy!

Surprise the family with a big heart for breakfast on Valentine’s Day!  (And go ahead and bookmark the Shamrock Cinnamon Rolls for next month’s holiday breakfast!)

Truthfully, this is probably my least favorite cinnamon roll breakfast art.  My favorites are a tie between the Shamrock and the Snowman!

Curious to see what other fun food art we’ve done?
