🍀 Shamrock Cinnamon Rolls | Fun Food for St. Patrick’s Day

Shamrock Cinnamon Rolls

Looking for some fun, themed food for St. Patrick’s Day?  These Shamrock Cinnamon Rolls are so easy and  so festive for a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast or treat!

No, I don’t make cinnamon rolls from scratch.  You’re going to be amazed at how easy these really are!

Easy Shamrock Cinnamon Rolls for St. Patrick’s Day

You start with a can of these:

Yep, just good ol’ Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls – make sure you get the Butter Cream Frosting Flaky Cinnamon Rolls (yellow band around the can).

Arrange them on a pan like so:

I squished one side of each roll and pinched them together to make the leaves of the shamrock.  You need 6 rolls to do this – two for each of the three leaves.  I unrolled a seventh roll to make the stem.  Notice where I left space – between the three leaf sections and in the middle around the stem – these do puff up when the bake.

Bake per the directions on the can.

There are 8 cinnamon rolls in the can, I bake the other one normal in the bottom corner of the pan and eat it when the pan comes out of the oven.  Shhhh!  It’s my little secret.

You will need the cream cheese from the can so DON’T eat any of it.  Ok, so maybe just a taste while the rolls are baking…

While you’re waiting on the rolls to bake, take some white sugar – you don’t need much, 1/4 will probably suffice.  I always color a bit too much.   Drop a few drops of green food coloring into the sugar and mix with a fork.  The food color wants to make lumps in the sugar – I find a fork makes it easy to break up and mix around.

Since we try to avoid food dyes as much as possible, I go easy on the drops.  Three or so.  So our shamrock isn’t super dark green – but the darker you try to make the sugar, the yuckier it looks.  So we just go with a hint of green – the idea of green.

When you pull your rolls out of the oven they should look a bit like this:

Wonderful!  They puffed up in all the right spots and still kept a shape that looks like a shamrock!

Then you have to let them cool before icing them.

I put the icing on just like I would if I were icing a regular pan of cinnamon rolls.  Mmmmmm, that looks delicious!  But wait!  You’re not done!

Because the look wouldn’t be complete without a sprinkling of green sugar!  And then you have Shamrock Cinnamon Rolls!  And they are delicious!
