Ammo Books Review and Giveaway!

I received for review two products from Ammo Books line of Children’s products.  I received the Patrick Hruby Memory Match Game and the Charlie Harper Nesting Blocks.  I picked a toy Bug could grow into and one he could play now.

The first thing I noticed when I receive my items was the quality.  Being a teacher, I know what a beating not only toys can take, but also the boxes those toys come in.  Board game boxes get tore up so easily with repeated use.  But the quality of the Patrick Hruby Memory Match Game box is incredible!  I have no doubt it could withstand years of abuse…use.  So, imagine what the game pieces themselves are like if the company makes such a great box!

The pictures on the memory match game are awesome!  They are like mini works of art right on each game piece!  The game has a circus theme to it with pictures like brightly colored tents, lions, fireworks, and other scenery and animals.

Bug is a little young for a memory match game.  But I took a few pieces out of the box for him to look at.  He liked the lion card (“Raaaaar!” he said.)  His favorite was the moon and star card.  (You can see it in both pictures.)  It’s a black card with a bright yellow crescent moon and little white star on it.  He is obsessed with looking at the moon and stars at night so I know why he loved that card so much.  In fact, I had to pry it out of his little hand even after he had moved on to playing with something else!

After a few minutes with the memory match game, I got out the nesting blocks.  I knew he’d love them!  He has always loved things he can stack, sort, fill, etc.

Again, one of the wonderful things about this toy is the quality.  And again, the artwork is unique.  As a parent, you can only own at so much cutesy, babyish, popular-character-themed toys before you feel like Toys R Us has exploded in your living room.  The artwork on the these blocks are a break from the “norm”.  They are simple, pleasant to look at and I feel, expose your child to seeing objects in a different way than he’s used to seeing them.  Not everything is a cartoon character, you know…

Needless to say we had a blast with the nesting blocks.  You can see in the first picture he is putting the 9th block on and it’s already taller than him.  This is by far the tallest set of nesting blocks he’s had.  And in the 3rd picture he is pushing to tower over, which is what we did umpteen times!!

The blocks feature the alphabet letters and corresponding animals on four sides, the top has numbers 1-10 with corresponding animals.

BUY IT!  You can purchase these items directly from Ammo Books.
Each artist has an entire collection of matching items.  For example, Patrick Hruby has an ABC book and a floor puzzle that go along with his memory match game.  Charley Harper has coloring books, wooden puzzles and board books that go along with the nesting blocks.
Patrick Hruby’s Memory Match is $15.95
Charley Harper’s Nesting Blocks are $24.95

WIN IT!  Ammo Books has agreed to give one lucky reader their choice of Patrick Hruby’s Memory Match OR Charley Harper’s Nesting Blocks.
