Can I tell you a secret? I live in a house with wrestling fans. When I met my now husband I had no idea what “professional wrestling” was. But he was a fan (which might be an understatement). Since I was forced to watch with him, I naturally found some wrestlers to be more likeable than others. Shawn Michaels was one of them. He quit wrestling several years ago, went through some really bad times, found Jesus and came back to sports entertainment a different person.
I said all that to say that this book is incredible. I have so much more admiration and respect for him now than when he was just “one of the more likeable wrestlers”. When Shawn Michaels came back to wrestling after being saved, I always wondered how he made that decision. I mean, the WWE is not a place you expect to find faith and morals. I’m so glad Shawn decided to write this book. He is being a light in the darkness by going back to the WWE and living Jesus. As he states in his book, wrestling is his God-given talent – there is a reason for it and he needs to use it for God’s glory. It would have been wrong for him to run from the WWE just because he was now a Christian – becoming a Christian gave him all the more reason to run back to the WWE. I love reading about him leading prayer backstage before the start of a show with anyone who wants to join in. Who would’ve thought that there is prayer before a WWE event??
This book would be a great gift for a WWE fan. But you don’t have to be a fan to read it. It’s a story of someone who hit rock bottom, turned to God and had their life changed. Anyone who is struggling can benefit from the story of someone who turned their life around by the power of Christ.
