I grew up with Homemade Garlic Toast served with Spaghetti or any other pasta dish my mom made. In fact, I was probably a teenager or close to it before I realized you could buy frozen garlic bread.
My mom always took sliced bread, spread some butter on them, sprinkled it with garlic salt and broiled them slices on high for 2-3 minutes. (These will burn VERY quickly – s0 set a timer!)
Hubs likes it when I sprinkle some shredded mozarella on top while the slices are still hot.
This is a great way to use up bread that isn’t quite fresh enough for a sandwich before. I’ve also made it using hamburger and hot dog buns that needed to be used up!
These go perfect with baked spaghetti casserole for a very frugal meal!

I just ate some garlic toast I made earlier. I use my bread that is not so fresh . I put butter, garlic salt, small pinch of garlic powder, and some italian seasoning. Sometimes we put parmesan cheese or some shredded cheese on it. It is sooooo good.
Ok I may sound crazy but with never doing this I was wondering if you spread the butter on one side only or on both. I don’t want to burn it up if I don’t have to. Thanks. I want to do this for dinner tonight as I’m having a group of my daughters friends over. Again Thank You
Just the side facing the broiler.
