Amee at Madame Deals was given $50 for a “Pay it Forward” challenge. She decided to entrust other bloggers with $5 each to see what good they could do with their $5!
Since I have been trying to do my part for the disaster relief efforts in my area after devastating tornadoes on April 27th, I knew my $5 would go toward more donation items. Several lists have been posted by the organization heading up our local efforts on items needed. They’ll update as new needs come along. But at the top of every list is diapers, wipes, baby formula, diaper cream and infant/toddler snacks. Oh, that just breaks my heart! I couldn’t imagine being a mother trying to care for her baby in this situation – many people lost their homes, their cars, their spouses, their children, their parents – to be a new mom with all the stress that brings and to suddenly lose your home too… I knew I had to provide something to help!
Bug is potty training so I boxed up the diapers I had left around here and took it with my first round of donations. But I wanted to do more than just diapers.
So here’s what I did for my $5 challenge:
I headed to Walmart with (4) $5 off any Similac product coupons and purchased these four 1qt bottles of ready-to-feed formula at $3.84 each.
4 Similac @ 3.84 each = $15.36
2 Gerber Snacks @ $3 each = $6.00
subtotal: $21.36
-$5 off Similac coupons (x4!) = $20 off
=$1.36 plus tax ($3.50 final total)
Well, that left me with $1.50 left to spend so I had to see what I could do with that! I went to CVS:
I got 2 Nivea for women body wash (each had a sample size lotion attached!), one Nivea for men body wash, one colgate toothpaste, and 2 Right Guard deodorants (each had a body wash attached to it!)
Before coupon cost: $32.84
After coupons (I had a coupon on everything plus $14 ECBs to use): 58c
plus tax ($2.01) =$2.59
So the total of both transactions is $6.09. I know I went over BUT from CVS I got $9.77 in ECBs back to use on a future purchase! So it’s almost like getting everything for FREE since I made money back on it!
Here’s everything together:
Again all this is going to help victims of tornadoes in Alabama. All for just a little over $5.
Next time you think $5 can’t do much – remember this! In a couponer’s hand $5 is worth alot!
