March 10th: National Pack Your Lunch Day | Tips and Tools for Saving by Packing a Lunch

Eating out is EXPENSIVE!  I work in an office three days a week so I’m packing my lunch at least three times a week.  But packing your lunch isn’t limited to when you’re at work or when the kids are in school.

When we travel by car, we typically pack a couple meals to eat on the drive!   I almost always pack lunch so that we don’t have to stop after we’re out on the road.  A lot of times I pack breakfast too just so we can get out the door quicker!

You can also pack your lunch when you’re going to be out all day running errands – a little planning ahead will prevent you from spending money on an overpriced fast food meal!

The key is to plan and prep in advance.

You have to put everything together the night before – at least mostly together – to ensure something doesn’t happen at the last minute and you don’t have time to pack.

Have containers and sandwich bags on hand is a must so you always have something to put your food it.

You need to make sure you have the right size lunch box for the job.  Are you packing lunch for just yourself or several people?  Are you packing more than one meal?

And, you need to make sure you pack things you like (or the consumers of the lunch like)!  There’s no sense in going through all the trouble for it to be wasted AND still have to spend money on eating out!
