Aldi and Target to Drop Grocery Prices this Summer

Interesting news stories have come out in the past couple weeks regarding grocery prices and what some retailers are planning to do about it.

We can all agree that the price of groceries right now is ABSURD.  Aldi and Target have solutions – albeit they sound like temporary solutions.

ALDI, one of America’s fastest-growing grocers, is planning to pass along $100 million in savings through Labor Day by further dropping its everyday low prices on more than 250 items. The price drop will nearly double savings from last year.  But since they have clearly said, “through Labor Day” I’m nervous about what will happen once summer is over.  What kind of price jump will we see then?

Here are some of the ALDI price changes you should be seeing in the stores right now:

Simply Nature: Organic Granola Bars
NOW: $3.49 Was: $3.99

Benton’s: Cookie Thins
NOW: $2.69 Was: $2.99

Burman’s: Steak Sauce
NOW: $1.89 Was: $1.99

Season’s Choice: Frozen French Fries 32oz
NOW: $2.49 Was: $2.79

Park Street Deli: Pulled Pork/Pulled Chicken
NOW: $6.99 Was: $7.49

Season’s Choice: Frozen Blueberries 24oz
NOW: $3.59 Was: $3.99

Simply Nature: Organic Pinto/Kidney Beans
NOW: $0.99 Was: $1.16

Specially Selected: French Baguette
NOW: $1.49 Was: $1.59

TARGET has announced it will lower everyday regular prices on approximately 5,000 frequently shopped items.  Consumers will enjoy savings on everyday items such as milk, meat, bread, soda, fresh fruit and vegetables, snacks, yogurt, peanut butter, coffee, diapers, paper towels, pet food and more. These price reductions will collectively save consumers millions of dollars this summer. Target routinely adjusts its prices to ensure it is competitive within the markets it does business. These new price reductions are on top of the retailer’s everyday low prices.

Target’s announcement doesn’t give a specific end date to these price cuts like Aldi’s does but it does continually stress the amount of money customers will save this summer.  Which leads me to believe they are temporary price cuts also.
