Facebook Tracking Class Action Settlement

How long have you been a Facebook user? Chances are, you’ve probably been one for awhile. Remember way back when just about every website you visited had a “Facebook Like” button on every page or article? Well, turns out that Facebook was doing some user tracking when user were on other websites – not on Facebook – which in some cases is unlawful. Facebook has agreed to pay $90 million to resolve claims of unlawful user tracking on external websites to collect data.  Even if you never used an “off-site Like button” you were still at risk of being tracked by Facebook if you had a Facebook account.

The settlement benefits people who were Facebook users between April 22, 2010, and Sept. 26, 2011, and who visited non-Facebook websites that displayed a Facebook “Like” button.

So, what do you get from it?

Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of claims filed with the settlement. The more people who file, the smaller payments will be.  But, you are eligible for a payment if you had an active Facebook account during the time-frame of April 22, 2010, and September 26, 2011.

In order to receive benefits from the settlement, class members must submit a valid claim form by Sept. 22, 2022.

Knowing your username(s) or URL(s) from that time period will help your claim and you should enter all usernames or URLs for Facebook accounts used between April 22, 2010, and Sept. 26, 2011.   This will increase the chances of the settlement administrator finding your account.  If you cannot remember your username, the administrator will try to find their account based on the other information.

If you do not qualify for this settlement do NOT file a claim.

Remember: you are submitting your claim under penalty of perjury. You are also harming other eligible Class Members by submitting a fraudulent claim.
