Amazon Prime Prices Going Up

This is not the first price increase post I’ve made this year and I’m certain it won’t be the last.  What have seen increases in so far?  Netflix, Little Caesar’s and Dollar Tree.

Beginning February 18th, the price to purchase a new Amazon Prime Yearly Membership is increasing from $119 to $139 per year. Existing members will see the increase reflected in their renewal price starting March 25th.

The last time we saw an increase was in 2018 and it also was $20, from $99 to it’s current $119.  But we also saw a price increase in 2014 when it went up from it’s original $79 to $99.

Which means that Amazon price costs almost TWICE as much as it originally did.

What can you do to avoid the price increase for as long as possible?

If you already have an Amazon Prime membership and want to skip the price increase, purchase a Gift Membership before February 18th. A gift membership just has to be redeemed within 3 years.  Head here to purchase a year of Amazon Prime at the current rate of $119. Then head to your account settings and set your current membership to NOT auto-renew.  Then when your current membership runs out you can redeem your gift membership for one more year without being affected by the price increase.

Don’t know how to turn off the auto-renew on your account?

  • Go here – https://amzn.to/3AYRmc2
  • Click on “Prime – View Benefits & Payment Settings” in upper right
  • Click on “Manage Membership” in upper right
  • Click on End Membership
  • You will then see an option like the above screenshot and you can opt to click on “Keep My Benefits” and your Prime membership will remain in effect until it expires.

I was contemplating ending my Prime membership and this just might be the nail in the coffin.  I do not think I will continue my Prime membership after 2022.  What about you?
