Don’t know what to read? Here are some suggestions!
This remains one of my favorite books that I’ve read:
Station Eleven: A Novel – by Emily St. John Mandel
2014 National Book Award Finalist and A New York Times Bestseller
An audacious, darkly glittering novel set in the eerie days of civilization’s collapse, Station Eleven tells the spellbinding story of a Hollywood star, his would-be savior, and a nomadic group of actors roaming the scattered outposts of the Great Lakes region, risking everything for art and humanity.
I read this book this summer and absolutely loved it:
Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World
What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
What about books to read with kids today?
Second up on our list of books most likely to give us the giggles, is The Book With No Pictures.
Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl is a story book in chapter book form. The chapters are short enough that we can read two or three a night usually, And it made bedtime the highlight of the day!
Now would be a great time to pick up a book to read aloud as a family (or even get on audio to listen to in the car – one of our favorite things to do!) Here are some of our favorite read-alouds:
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
A beloved favorite in this household and many others. If you’re just going to read one, read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Buy my recommendation is to get the whole series on audio and start with The Magician’s Nephew.
The Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Yes, we have listened to this entire series. Yes, even my SON loves it. Obviously, Little House on the Prairie is the most recognizable title in this series but it is actually preceded by Little House in the Big Woods. There are nine books total in the series. This is another great series for audio.
The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White
Ok, I know this is supposed to be a list of books for National READ a Book Day but this is another one that is delightful on audio! Charlotte’s Web is the E.B. White book that seems to get the most attention, but I enjoyed this one far more!
