Recall Alert: Walmart Great Value Frozen Organic Cherries – August 2017

Recall Alert on Walmart Great Value Frozen Organic Cherries – August 2017

The recall occurred after the producer, Sunrise Growers Inc., found Listeria monocytogenes during routine testing. Listeria is a food borne disease-causing bacteria that invades the body through a normal and intact gastrointestinal tract.

Sunrise Growers shipped the frozen, organic, pitted cherries on August 10, 2017 – possibly to stores in Louisiana and Mississippi.   Because the best-by date for the cherries is two years away it’s important to check your bags of product.

If you have purchased frozen cherries recently, check the back of the bag for this information:

Best by Date of 08/10/19
UPC number of 078742126166
Lot code FED722211 or FED22212

If anyone has eaten or handled these specific cherries, you should monitor yourself for symptoms (Listeria has an incubation period of 70 days – so just because you feel okay now doesn’t mean you’re in the clear). Symptoms may include high fever, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

If you have affected product you can return it to the store for a refund.
