A Delightful New Book for Young and Old Alike – “Missy Piggle-Wiggle and the Won’t-Walk-the-Dog Cure”

Last year, one of the first books our homeschool curriculum called for, was Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.   Mrs. Piggle Wiggle – who used to be married to a pirate, you know – lives in an upside down house and always has cookies AND the perfect cure for whatever ails the neighborhood children.  Oh, I don’t mean colds and tummy aches… not those kinds of ailments.  But the all to common childhood ailments like Won’t-Pick-Up-Toys, Answer-Backer and Slow-Eater-Tiny-Bite-Taker.  Mrs. Piggle Wiggle can cure them all!

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, first written by Betty MacDonald in 1947, has been delighting children and grown-ups alike for over 50 years.  Now, it’s her great niece’s turn to cure and delight.  Welcome to the world, Missy Piggle Wiggle!

Famed children’s author & mother Annie Parnell, the great-granddaughter of Betty MacDonald who is the creator of the original and iconic Mrs. PiggleWiggle book series, has joined forces with legendary NY Times Best-Selling children’s author Ann M. Martin (The Baby-Sitter’s Club series) to create a modern-day take on the original series that has young Missy PiggleWiggle stepping into her great-aunt Mrs. PiggleWiggle‘s enchanted shoes. The second book of the series, Missy PiggleWiggle and the Won’t Walk the Dog Cure, features Missy curing whiney-whiners and smarty-pantsiness, as well as other habits, while continuing to make a life for herself in Little Spring Valley living in the same upside down house her great aunt used to live in.

Many thanks to authors and publishers for allowing us a sneak peek at the book before it’s release date on September 5, 2017!  As always, all opinions are my own.
The original Piggle-Wiggle series is a timeless classic that I believe all families can enjoy and appreciate.  The new Missy Piggle-Wiggle series has the same lovable anecdotes with a modern take that makes it easier for younger children to read and enjoy.  I, by no means, think it’s a replacement for the original (and I highly doubt that is what the author intends!)  I believe both series should be read and enjoyed by children.   Missy Piggle-Wiggle is a book I know my 8 year old could easily get through himself.  The original Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series is something I get great enjoyment reading aloud to him.  Reading it aloud gives me the opportunity to explain words and nuances he wouldn’t understand in a 50 year old book.  Those are the things that the Missy Piggle-Wiggle series updates – making it more relevant to today’s kids but just as delightful.  Plus, I’m sure we can all agree that we all know someone that could use the “Whiney-Whiners Cure” that Missy conjures up in chapter six.  But I won’t give it away.  You’ll have to wait until the book comes out!

Missy PiggleWiggle and the Won’t Walk the Dog Cure will be published on September 5, 2017, by Feiwel & Friends, an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group.
