January 25th has been chosen as National Irish Coffee Day. It even has it’s own website.
I don’t know who picks these – I’m just the bearer of the news…and in today’s case, a recipe!
In honor of the holiday, KRUPS, the leader in coffee makers and kitchen appliances, has provided an improved Irish Coffee recipe for you and your readers to enjoy.
(Slightly) Improved Irish Coffee
By KRUPS Barista Sam Lewontin
Ingredients
- 6oz. hot filter coffee*
- 1 1/2oz. Irish whiskey
- 1/2oz. Demerara syrup**
- 3 dashes Dale DeGroff Pimento bitters
- 2oz half and half
Directions
- Combine coffee, whiskey, Demerara syrup, and bitters in your favorite coffee mug. Stir to combine. Steam half and half, pour over the top of the coffee-whiskey mixture, and garnish with freshly-grated nutmeg. If you prefer, add whipped cream.
**If you can’t locate bottled Demerara syrup in a store near you, you can make your own by dissolving two parts Demerara sugar in one part boiling water, and stirring until fully integrated.
