My son asked me yesterday, “Why do we eat turkey at Thanksgiving?” I didn’t have a good answer for that question other than it’s just what we do because that’s how it’s always been done, and something about the Pilgrims and Indians having turkey. And he said, “I don’t like turkey. I wish they had had chicken fingers.” I just love him so much! You never know what he’s going to say.

I roast mine in my ninja cooker.
I did not you should Lift turkey onto platter, and let stand for 15 minutes before carving. I will be roasting mine this year!
I learned you can grill them! 10 to 16 lb. turkeys will take 2 to 3 hours to grill. When done, remove and let stand for 15 minutes before carving.
Well, we call it stuffing because when we bake the turkey we usually “stuff” it. However, when we make it we have to make more than will fit inside the bird so some is really “dressing.”
I do something a bit different from most folks. I gave up on making my own cornbread, biscuits, and toasted bread to make the stuffing long ago. So I purchase several bags and varieties of bread stuffing. I combine these and then I make my difference. It calls for butter, onions, celery, and grits. Yep! you heard it right – grits. I chop the onions and celery and then cook them a bit in the melted butter until slightly cooked. Then I add enough chicken broth (canned – salted and unsalted) for the 1 cup of grits that I add. I bring it to a slow boil and add the uncooked grits. I cook until the grits are done.
I then add this to the bread crumbs with additional chicken broth (canned or homemade). Since I’m using the packaged stuffing bread I usually don’t need more sage. But I do kind of check to see if it needs a bit more spice. Since all of this is safe to do a taste test on, I can determine if it needs a bit of salt, pepper, and/or sage.
My son now cooks our Thanksgiving turkey or turkeys (depending on how many we are expecting) on his smoker. Wonderful!
I didn’t really learn anything new but there are many new and different recipes on the site.
I learned that you can use marinades to help with the flavor, and how to make your own turkey lifter.
I learned that I can grill my turkey! I learned I shouldn’t stuff it and should cook it breast side up on the grill. This would give amazing flavor and would free up the oven for all the sides!

I learned that you should never thaw a turkey at room temperature. I plan on roasting the turkey in the oven this year.
that you should let it stand before carving
Thaw using cooler.
I learned how to Brine my bird!
Loved all the videos! I’ve never made my own turkey (ever haha) so I will be using all of them! I have to admit, i didn’t even know you were supposed to inject a turkey, so I’m learning a lot. :-)
I like the tips of “How to deep fry” especially tips like “while the oil is heating, pat the turkey dry with paper towels and prepare your turkey with any seasonings, marinades, or injected flavors”. I am deep frying my turkey.
You can grill a turkey! Who knew? I’ve only made a turkey once. It was 10 years ago for mine and my husband’s first thanksgiving married and in our own home. Now, we just go to a family member’s house. I usually take a side dish and dessert. Haven’t made a turkey since 2005!
I learned that they have all kinds of tips on how to brine the turkey. I plan to cook our turkey in a bag…so moist that way.
