I was making a craft with my preschool class and I had mixed all these colors with white to lighten them and then I had a bunch leftover. So I decided we needed to make another (easy) Mother’s Day Craft.
It’s always fun to ask 4 and 5 year olds questions like “Why do you love your mom?” So this idea was born. I needed to use a lot of paint up. Now, this would be a fun fingerpaint craft (that even the littlest ones could do) BUT it doesn’t have to be. We used paint brushes. One or two kids fingerpainting is fun. A roomful of them….not so much.
So anyways, I grabbed a heart template. I could’ve easily drawn some but I had some coloring sheets leftover from Valentine’s Day. I cut out the hearts and taped them to white construction paper. I just used about three pieces of tape doubled over and applied close to the edges. You want to make sure it’s pressed down well because you don’t want paint getting under it.
Then I told the kids to take their brushes and cover the WHOLE paper. Explaining to them that we’d be taking the heart off and not to paint it was futile. So I just said paint everything.
Once it dries COMPLETELY you can gently take the heart off and use the negative space to write in or even put handprints if your heart was big enough. We didn’t do handprints because that’s what our other craft was.
My child loves me because I take him shopping… I love him!
