As a blogger, Facebook is a great asset. It helps me not only reach people, but really interact with them. There are many of you that comment regularly and I recognize your name when I see it. We chat, we share. It’s fun.
But at the same time, Facebook is also the bane of my existence, a thorn in my side and an overall headache.
Why? Because they keep changing things. And those “things” are called algorithms. And the algorithms determine what posts you see in your news feed. Now, one would ask, “Why can’t I just see everything in my news feed?” Yes, you would think that if you “like” a page or are “friends” with someone on Facebook that you made such a decision because you wanted their items to show up in your news feed. Years ago, this is the way Facebook was done.
Not anymore. Facebook wants to try to decide what you REALLY want to see. As if you can’t choose for yourself. How do I know Facebook has changed? As a page administrator I have a nifty little bar below each post that tells me how many people saw that post while scrolling their news feed. Thursday night into early Friday morning, my average “reach” as they call it was 1800-2200 people per post. When you figure in the fact that I have nearly THIRTEEN THOUSAND fans it’s aggravating enough to know that Facebook is only allowing me to reach about 15% of them. But something changed early Friday morning and now my average reach is about 200-300 people per post – about 3%.
Now, “liking” a page is not enough. You must also “FOLLOW” it. So take a moment and do me a grand favor (and you can also do this for any other pages that you like and want to continue to receive updates from.) Go to Saving Toward A Better Life on Facebook. On the right side of the page just under then main header image you will see three buttons:
If you have already “liked” my page then there will be a checkmark beside “liked”. (If you haven’t liked yet, now would be a great time!)
Next to that is a “Follow” button. If you see three little lines that look like parenthesis/wi-fi symbol/radio waves/whatever you want to call them that is BAD. That means you are NOT following.
This is what you WANT to see:
A checkmark beside “Following”. That means you are following my page and will continue to see updates in your newsfeed.
I hope you’ll take a moment to do this. I do this blog for all you out there that enjoying it and benefit from it. If I’m not reaching YOU, I might as well not have a blog.
Joining the Facebook GROUP is another way to make sure you get all the deals. It won’t clog up your newsfeed. It will appear as a link in the left column of your newsfeed with a little number bubble next to it showing how many new posts have been made. Click on it any time to see what you have missed!
Thanks!
