Monday’s Money-Saving Recipe – How to Grill an Onion

This is a perfect accent to your Fourth festivities this week!  We love throwing an onion on the grill anytime it’s fired up.  Here’s what we do to it:

  1. Start with a sweet Vidalia onion.  Remove skin and cut off the top.  I always prep it on a piece of foil.
  2. Slice it “bloomin’ onion” style without cutting any pieces completely off
  3. Using stick butter, fill in the cuts.  I just take a stick of butter and slice it, jamming the pats in between the petals of the onion.  This helps separate the onion.  Then season it.  This can be to your preference.  We have used: seasoning salt, Mrs. Dash original. Mrs. Dash Lemon Pepper, ground black pepper, ground peppercorn.  My favorite is a light sprinkling of seasoning salt and a generous amount of Lemon Pepper.

4. Wrap up in the foil you’ve prepped it on.  Then wrap it a second time.
5.  Throw it on the grill for about 20 minutes.
6.  Remove, open up and enjoy!
