Frugal Fun with Kids – A FREE Fun Day!

I’m a firm believer that fun things for the kids don’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Fun splurges are nice occasionally but I like to fill our weeks with fun things that cost little or nothing to do!

Every week I post a round up of FREE things to do on the weekend. Many retailers host free activities for the kids to get you in their stores hoping you’ll buy something while you’re there.

We happen to catch a great day a few weekends ago where there were two freebies going on close to each other and at overlapping times. We started at Home Depot where we built a race car for free! They really go all out for their kids free events – we got a balloon, snack and drink while we were there!

After we left there we went to Lifeway where they were showing the new Veggie Tales movie. We got to color pictures, make a hat, watch the movie and we got another balloon, drink and snack!

I knew both our free events came with snacks so I had planned on not eating out for lunch (we were being frugal, after all!) I had packed some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and juice boxes. We stopped at the park, ate, played, and went home and took a wonderful nap! When Bug woke up, he had a new race car, a hat that he deemed his pirate hat and spent the rest of the day wearing and saying “arrrgh” and “ahoy there”, extra pictures to color, and balloons that we used to play balloon volleyball with. So our fun continued all afternoon (with new toys to boot!) and we didn’t spend a dime!!

Since I will be a SAHM all summer for the very first time, I’m determined to find something frugally fun to do every week!  I would love to hear your best ideas for having fun with your kids frugally!
