I love the kid’s clearance racks at Target! I frequently find things for $1.00!
On this particular trip through Target clearance, I found two onesies and a little jacket for my nephew and two tshirts and a long sleeve polo-type shirt for Bug.
I spent less than $8 on all six items! (and I was particulary thrilled to find WINTER items on the clearance rack in November!!!)
Always be sure you check out the clearnace racks at Target and Walmart too because I’ve been able to score great prices on kid’s clothes. (The winter coat that Bug is wearing right now was $4.50 on a Walmart clearance rack over the summer!)
Kid’s grow so fast that I always make sure I buy a size up if the item is out of season (for example, the two tshirts I bought were 4T even though Bug is mostly wearing 3Ts right now.
You have to know what your typical weather is like all year round. Even if Bug can’t wear those 4T shirts in April when it starts warming up, we live in Alabama where we wear short sleeves all through the month of October (and beyond sometimes) So I know they will get wear.
Know when to pass on a deal! Even if it’s only $1.00, if it’s the size your child is in now but it’s going to be a good 4 or 5 months before they can wear it, don’t get it. A dollar may only be a dollar but wasting it is still wasting.
I buy several sizes up too when the price is right. Back during the summer I found some size 6 long sleeved t shirts AND a fleece pullover for $1.00. You’d better believe I snatched them all up! I have boxes in the garage labeled 4T, 5, and 6 and up. When I find a deal like that, I just toss it in the appropriate box and there it stays until time to pull that size out. I’ve done this since Bug was a baby – always having boxes to collect the next size up things.
How do you save money on kid’s clothes?
I do the same thing for my girls, but have discovered that they can’t wear shirts that are from Target/Wal-Mart anymore. I bought them pj’s on Black Friday for Christmas (buying them a size up) and the shirts were still too short for them :( Not worth it if they don’t fit right away. I have had to reside to shopping at Children’s Place (still $2.99-$4.99 plus lots of coupons always available), Sears (found jeans last night for next size up for $2.99), and Kohl’s/Penney’s (when I can actually find a deal cheap enough; they start out at so much money, that even on clearance it’s more than I want to pay).
Consignment shops are great too. We have an awesome one here in Lancaster NY that put everything at 50% off starting tomorrow to clear out the winter clothing. In 2-3 weeks 75% off and then a few weeks after that everything will be $1!!
