REVIEW – Skin MD Shielding Lotion

I am plagued by an annoying skin condition called Keratosis pilaris.  Which is just a fancy medical way of saying “annoying, red, dry, bumpy skin on your arms”.  It’s not painful, it’s not serious, it’s just ANNOYING.  At it’s best, the condition causes a less-than-smooth feeling on the backs of my arms.  At it’s worst, it causes red, bumpy, dry, scaly, splotchy, itchy spots on my arms.  SO not attractive in the summer time when I want to wear my cute sleeveless tops!

My mom had it too.  So I was not surprised to find out that this is a genetic condition.  And although it affects women more often than men, I think my son is going to have it because at 2 years old I’ve already noticed bumpy patches on the backs of his arms.

For my entire adolescent and adult life I have religiously applied lotion to the backs of my arms 2-5 times a day to keep this “at it’s best” and to avoid a flare up of it at it’s worst.  I’ve found some lotions work better than others and a little light exfoliation helps.  But it’s still an annoying skin care issue to deal with!

Insert Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion.   This stuff is seriously my Knight In Shining Armor.

Here is a little about how a shielding lotion works:

A shielding lotion does the real work to prevent dry skin in two ways.

First, it assists the inner layers of skin to absorb moisture. The humectant (an ingredient that attracts moisture) used in Skin MD Natural is unique to it and has been laboratory tested to be 6 times more effective than any other you will find in common creams.

Second, a shielding lotion enhances the power of the top layer of the skin to resist environmental irritants while protecting the inner natural moisture.

This can be a big benefit for those who cook, wash dishes and garden because Skin MD Natural helps skin retain its natural moisture and oils in the face of all those irritating soaps and chemicals.

The manufacturer’s website has hundreds of dermatologist and user reviews including many addressing severe dry skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. People with sensitive skin — and those of us who like to live as naturally as possible — will appreciate that Skin MD Natural is hypoallergenic, free of fragrances, parabens and colorants. It is made with more than 90% natural ingredients and 100% food-grade ingredients that are on the FDA’s “most safe” list.

All attempts to photograph my arms for this review resulted in bright, white, washed out photos or too dark to see photos (I really must learn how to adjust the flash…).  But I can tell you that my arms look exactly like the one in the photo here when they are moderately “irritated”.

The Skin MD Shielding lotion did in ONE application to my arms that it took other lotions 3 or more applications to do – and that is to tone my KP condition down to it’s “best” scenario.

The Skin MD Shielding lotion is light and fragrance free – which are two big pluses!  It is described as a “Hand, Face and Body Lotion” and to be honest, I was skeptical.  You really want me to use the same lotion on my FACE as I do everywhere else?  I’ve just never done that before.  I’ve found most hand and body lotions to be too thick or creamy to use on my face.  Plus, I have a bit of a sensitive skin issue with my face as well.  But when I saw how light, thin and non-greasy the lotion was, I knew it was going to be incredible.  I was not disappointed with the way it left my face feeling – smooth, not greasy, radiant and healthy.

You can find out how to get some samples of the Skin MD Shielding Lotion here.   You can also read more about skin care, find a retailer or order it directly from the website.

You can find Skin MD Natural on Facebook and Twitter.

I was provided with a generous amount of free samples in exchange for my review.  No monetary compensation was received and all opinions are my own.  And I really do have the above-mentioned, super annoying skin issue!
