28 Ways to Save on Anything – Helping Others / Charitable Donations

Join me everyday in February as I share ways to save money on just about anything you need, want, use!

Couponers are in a unique position to help others.  Most often to help meet a specific or immediate need within their community.

Since I’ve started couponing, I’ve been able to give more generously to my church but monetarily and with usuable goods.

How?

Because couponing has allowed me to have more.  My husband and I are more faithful tithers to our church because we are being better stewards of our money overall.

But it’s more than just the money donations.  Our church runs a food pantry.  When they post a need for more cereal, canned tuna and spaghetti noodles, all I have to do is go down to my basement and I can easily fill up 2-3 grocery bags with those items and some toothpaste, green beans and anything else I have extra of!  Why can I do this?  Because I have a stockpile of goods that I got at little or no cost to me through couponing.  When those cans of tuna only cost me 13c each and the toothpaste was free and I know in a few weeks, I’ll be able to get them at that price again, I am more than glad to pass them along to help others.

When the church takes up school supplies in August for needy school children, I do the CVS deals to get free paper, scissors and glue and donate.

Because of couponing I am able to get more and give more.

Here is a great example of how you can help RIGHT NOW through Operation Troop Aid.

Did you know that your coupons can help others too?  Not just your use of the coupons, but the actual coupons!   Here are some places to send your coupons to be used by others:

  • Send your expired coupons to military families (overseas commissaries will accept coupons up to 6 months past their expiration date!)
  • Send pet food coupons to the Friends of Cats and Dogs Foundation who distributes them to people who take in foster pets (to prevent shelter overcrowding) or to elderly /disabled pet owners so they can care for their pets.
  • Send coupons for BOOST and ENSURE nutritional drinks to cancer patients under going chemo.

Interested in donating more to your local food bank?  Check out the weekly Give Freely post to find the stores near you that have donate-able items (non-perishables, canned goods, etc) for super cheap!  If you picked up and extra item or two on every shopping trip, you could make a sizable donation in no time!
