I’m doing my best to find out all the reusable bags that have been recalled due to lead.
So far, CVS, has only recalled one bag.
Winn-Dixie has recalled it’s ‘Baby Faces’ bag (which I have!) and the one in the picture on the right side. (Although, I’ve heard conflicting reports that the one on the right is actually a Publix bag?? Still looking into it.)
Read about the Winn Dixie recall here. You can take your bag to the store for a refund.
I just spoke to a customer service rep at my local Winn Dixie (Covington, LA) and was told they have pulled ALL of their reusable bags for now, but that the ones creating the concern are specifically the plastic, webbed fabric kind with pictures of fruit on them. (That is, by the way, the same "fabric" the baby face one is made from.) They are giving customers $1.50 per bag for the returned bags. I have some 15-20 of the bags and was told tonight that this is not a problem.
From what I read on Winn Dixie's site they are only concerned with the future impact made by disposing of the bags and say they are safe to use. However, I've already had one cashier question the safety of my bags because of "germs." I told her I only use specific surface-washable bags for meats and I clean them with disinfectant. She didn't look convinced, but she let it go. Good thing…she almost lost WD a customer. So with this in mind I'm returning my questionable bags and will buy cloth ones (or make some which I've been planning to do for a while.)
Hope this is helpful.
