Tuesday’s Treat – Kid’s Craft part 2!

I teach preschool so (simple) crafts are a big part of my day.  Here are some of my most trusted, fool proof ideas:

  • Paint out of the ordinary.  Painting is fun.  Painting with something besides paintbrushes is even more fun!  Have a toy truck with large, ridged wheels?  Roll it in paint and then roll it across the paper – it makes “tracks!”.  Potato mashers also make neat prints when stamped.  If you have a large lidded box top, place paper inside of it, roll some marbles in paint and then inside the box top.  Gently rock the box top back and forth.  The marbles make tracks as they roll around.
  • A new take on stickers.  Stickers on a sheet of wax paper can be stuck, removed, re-stuck and played with over and over again!  (And it’s an activity that doesn’t need to be supervised like painting!)
  • Let them tear something up!  Paper that is!  Give them a sheet of brightly colored construction paper (or a few strips of different colors) and let them tear them up into different sizes and shaped pieces.  (This is a great small motor skill development activity!)  When they are finished, let them glue them randomly on another sheet of paper.  Older children can try to make a “picture” by piecing their pieces together.
