Go here to see the list of recalled Infant’s and Children’s Tylenol and Motrin. I just found out about this recall yesterday at Wal-Greens. They had pulled everything from their shelves and even removed the shelf tags. I thought it was weird so i asked and she told me that it had been recalled.
Here is a brief explanation why from the recall website:
Some of the products included in the recall may contain a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified; others may contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements; and others may contain tiny particles. While the potential for serious medical events is remote, the company advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use.
Good news is that they WILL be compensating anyone who has any recalled product(s):
McNeil is offering two options for consumers who have purchased products affected by this recall. You can receive either a refund for the average retail price of the product or a coupon for a free replacement (s) when the product becomes available again. You can do this by selecting one of the three ways to contact us on the right side of our www.mcneilproductrecall.com home page. To process your refund or coupon you will need the NDC number and Lot number from the product that has been recalled. The NDC number can be found above the brand name on the label of the bottle. The Lot number can also be found on the label and is usually placed vertically on the label.
First thing: it's not only tylenol and motrin, but also zyrtec.
The only thing is, their contact form doesn't have specific instructions or guarantee that they will replace all of the items in your possession (eg I have three bottles of tylenol, two opened, and one opened bottle of zyrtec).
Plus, I can see this being a problem where people claim to have 10 of these things in their house, when they only have 1.
They also don't say when they expect to have new product out on the shelves. Neither one of those things help me when I have a teething infant and a toddler with severe seasonal allergies who had Zyrtec prescribed by his pediatrician.
I guess I will be checking the labels of off-brand products, to make sure that they are not manufactured by McNeil. And perhaps I'll continue doing that in the future, sales and coupons for the brand name items notwithstanding. Their (McNeil's) stuff has been off shelves for a month now, and they STILL haven't got it straight.
"To process your refund or coupon you will need the NDC number and Lot number from the product that has been recalled."
I just put the product name and the numbers they ask for in the comment box here https://www.mcneilproductrecall.com/page.jhtml?id=/include/contact.inc
and told them I wanted a check.
Store brands are not affected. Wal-Green's had theirs out yesterday. Only Tylenol and Motrin were pulled.
Request a check instead of a coupon. Then you'll have the money and can get a substitute product.
Also, Hylands Teething Gel and Tablets work great for my son. He's 18 months.
