I wasn’t letting the weekend go by without bringing you some more resources on stockpiling.
We started this feature last week with this post and I recommend checking it out if you haven’t already. We learned about the what, why, and how of stockpiling. This week we’re going to focus on the WHERE…the organizing and storing of your stockpile.
This is another post from Stockpiling Moms’ wonderful site and it’s called Organizing your Stockpile. Be sure to read it to help you get starting on stocking your stockpile.
Now, here’s my progress. First, I would like to introduce you to the world’s smallest pantry:
Yes, that is my kitchen pantry. There are no more shelves above or below what you see. That is it. I have to stand sideways to get in and reach something in the back. When I was pregnant, I couldn’t reach things in the back because I couldn’t fit through the doorway sideways. No lie…it’s that small.
But I worked on it this week. I straightened the shelves and organized things. Everything has a place now.
Here’s my overflow into the hall closet (which isn’t very big either). I have one shelf in there for extra food items and one shelf for cleaning supplies.
Because I have such limited space, I have stuff stacked in front of stuff. For example, there is cereal behind those boxes of Hamburger Helper.
To help me know what I have, I tacked a list inside this pantry with everything that’s on the back of the shelf listed so I won’t forget what’s back there. And as I use it I can mark it off.
Here’s the area I need to work on in the basement:
Here’s my bathroom pantry. Small items, medicines and such on the top shelf. That empty middle shelf is because I have a laundry basket full of towels that need to be folded and put away. :) Shampoo, body wash, toothpaste and toilet paper on the bottom shelf.
And here’s one of my under sink cabinents. Those little 3 drawer organizers are fantastic!! I have my husbands razors and shaving stuff in one drawer. Cold medicine in another. And one’s still empty until I decide what I want to put in it. Still lots of room in this cabinet to work with. Yay! I love space! :)
I must say that we have just about the same amount of panty/storage areas. I also use a big storage tub for all deo, lotion, toothbrushs, razors, toothpaste, school supplies, etc. That tub is now located inside my closet. We also us under the sink areas for stuff as well. I have no basement. I hate that because I could have some nice shelves to put my items on.
I'm glad to know I'm not alone in the "small pantry" club. LOL!
Wow, it looks fantastic! My pantry is teeny too, and I've never figured out how to make more space. I LOVE the drawers under the bathroom idea!!
I have a small pantry closet on the main floor but its dark, has ridiculiously spaced shelves and is in no way capable of holding on of the food we have, so I moved everything down to the basement utility room where I have a large set of wall shelves and turned the tiny pantry closet into a linen closet. I have to walk down the stairs to pick out our food but atleast I can see everything now :)
