Food World – Bargain Brag

I used to LOVE shopping at Food World. They were the closest grocery store too me (super convenient!) and they had great sales and double coupons up to 50c everyday (and occasionally had a TRIPLE coupon day!) The Bruno’s company (that owned Food World stores too) was bought out by Bi-Lo, who ran them into the ground, bailed out on them leaving them with all the debt Bi-Lo had amassed and none of the profits their stores had earned. They were forced to close more than half their stores (including MY store) and lay off hundreds of workers (including my husband who worked at their corporate office).

But I’m not bitter. :]

Anyway, some of their stores survived, restructured and apparently are thriving. There is a Food World store just a block down the street from my Winn-Dixie but I haven’t gone there in since last spring because I stopped getting sales papers.

Well, my Wednesday paper had a sales ad and they were having one doozie of a sale!

The had 16oz bags of frozen Tilapia filets Buy 1 get TWO free! (which equals 3 bags for $7.88!!) Of course, they were sold out when I went Friday so I got a rain check.

Here is what I did get:

Before savings: $42.98
Savings (sales & coupons): $29.53
Amount Paid: $13.25!

I used coupons coupons on everything except the three bread items and bananas. The milk, 3 yogurts, spaghetti-os and campbell’s had store coupons attached to them (the milk (paid $1.19 for a gallon!) and yogurt were closed dated (but still 5 days away!) and the cans were dented). The things I didn’t have coupons on were still under $1 each. The Hormel completes was free with the purchase of the Hormel entree (which was $2.99 after coupon!) One cane of tuna was free and I had overage on the coupons for toilet paper!

Food World is still operating 20 stores across Alabama and 7 stores in Florida (Niceville, Mary Esther, Milton and 3 in Pensecola.) If I continue to get Food World ads in my newspaper, I will start a Food World feature. :]

In the meantime, if you live near a Food World, go scoop up that Tilapia deal! And while you’re there, take your $1/2 Birdseye Steamfresh veggies coupon b/c Food World has select varieties for 89c!! (78c for 2 w/coupon).

And the Marcal Small Steps 4 roll toilet paper is on sale for 69c. In the 1/31 SS is a $1 off any and a $2 off any! You can use the $1 Q to get 31c overage on a pack and the $2 off to get $1.31 in overage! (Just remember with overage, you need items in your transaction to absorb it. The store will not give you money back.) Or you can use the $2 coupon to get a 4 double roll pack for 59c (reg. price $2.59). I had one $1 and three $2. I got two 4pks and two 4 dbl roll pks. It was $6.56 & I had $7 in coupons for 44c overage on 8 reg rolls and 8 dbl rolls (like 24 rolls total!)

These deals are good through Tuesday. :]
