I’ll be honest, I have accumulated a few of the canvas grocery bags and they are awesome! Do I use them all the time? No. I mean too, but I leave them at home. Or I left them out in the car. Or I’m only getting a couple things and I’ve got the baby to juggle, who want’s to fool with digging the bags out of the backseat?
Well, Target wants to make it worth your while to think Green! They will now give you a 5 cent credit on your purchase for each reusable shopping bag you bring and use!! I did it this weekend. I was so happy to save another 15 cents! I took three bags and she rang up my items then deducted the 5c per bag. But only used 2 of them, but I still got credit for three! Probably because she had to ring everything up and deduct for the bags before she actually used them. So, always throw in an extra bag or two! Clearly if you only have two small items and take three bags you probably won’t get credit for all three but if you’re doing a medium to big shop, you could sneak in an extra bag or two.
Five cents may not seem like a lot but think about how many bags you come home with from your average grocery store visit. 10 bags? That’s 50 cents. 20 bags? That’s $1. Once a week for a month? That’s $4! 12 months in the year? That’s $48!! All for reusing your bags!
This is something that could really add up over time!! Not to mention it’s good for the environment! I feel bad about throwing plastic bags away. So they gather in the bottom of the pantry (lunch sacks!) or hang on the back of Gavin’s bedroom door (hello, dirty diaper bags!) but they accumulate faster than we can use them! Now I can come home with a little less waste and little more change and not feel so bad.
I hope other stores catch on to this fast!!
