You get +UP rewards back on the purchase (that you can use to pay for another purchase).
So for the $2.99 toothpaste, you use the $1/1 coupon and pay $1.99 - then you get $2.00 +UP rewards back = FREE
The gum is $1 each and you get $1 +UP reward when you buy 3.  Buy 3 and use the $2 off 3 coupon and pay $1 - then get $1.00 +UP back = FREE.

You could actually go in there and buy then gum, use the coupon, pay $1 (plus applicable tax) and get your $1 +UP.  Then in a second transaction, buy the toothpaste, use the $1 coupon AND your $1 +UP from the gum and pay 99c (plus applicable tax) and get $2 +UP.  You&#039;ve just spent $1.99 for toothpaste and 3 packs of gum and you have $2.00 +up left to spend on anything else you want.]]></description>
