February 4, 2018, is National Thank A Mail Carrier Day.  In the profession I am in with Blogging/PR/Media Promotion/Reviews I get A LOT OF MAIL.  Add to that the fact that I’m an all around “order by mail” addict (Amazon Prime Pantry and Subscribe and Save and general ordering from Amazon because of free gift cards, Kohls.com because I just love them and e.l.f cosmetics for my favorite beauty must haves) and I really get a lot of mail.   So I know the value of a good mail carrier and I know that they do hard work.  (Did I mention I live at the bottom of a hill?  So doorstep deliveries require walking down the hill and back up the hill… I know my mail carriers hate me…) So how do you tell your mail carrier thank you?  Turns out, tipping (in the form of cash) is a no-no.

Under federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount.  You may give a gift card to a specific retail venue (but not cards like Visa cards) valued at $20 or less (e.g., Starbucks gift card), as long as the total value of all gifts that you give to the Letter Carrier do not exceed $50 in a calendar year. A simple acknowledgement of their hard work and a big thank you can go a long way!  Here are some ideas for thanking your mail carrier (that stay within the legal limits!)!

  • A simple thank you card to brighten their day!
  • You can get Redbox gift cards for as little as $10 that can be printed.  Attach to a bag of popcorn and treat your mail carrier to a movie night!
  • Starbucks gift card for $5
  • A bag of M&M’s with this cute “Miles and Miles” printable attached to it.
  • Get the kids involved and let them draw a picture or write a letter.  G loves to get mail.  It will be fun to include him and let him thank the mail carrier for all the cool stuff that he gets in the mail.  (Yes, he gets nearly as much as I do!)

This is what I did over the holidays:

I plan on putting it back out for the next week or so.  You can snag the printable here also.

Do you have any additional ideas?
