8 Patriotic Books for Kids

patrioticbooksforkidsLooking for Patriotic Books for Kids? Here are 8 you should check out. I really love the ones that have great artwork to go along with them. I think they’re as great for adults as they are for the kids! With that said though, we do like the more cartoonish A Is for America book.   It’s very brief and to the point for even the littlest ones!

In no particular order, here are 8 Patriotic Books for Kids:

The Rocket’s Red Glare: Celebrating the History of The Star Spangled Banner (Book and CD) by Peter Alderman

The Rocket’s Red Glare: Celebrating the History of The Star-Spangled Banner is a unique combination of kid’s book and coffee table book accompanied by a musical rendition of The Star Spangled Banner from chart topping artist Jo Dee Messina. Join Francis Scott Key on the choppy waters of the Chesapeake Bay in this stunning picture book that will transport you to one of the most important days in U.S. history. This book tells the story of the creation of the American National Anthem. Historically accurate and beautifully illustrated this book will appeal to children (ages three and up) and parents alike. The CD features Jo Dee Messina singing the Anthem and reading the book.

A is for America Devin Scillian

From the British and our Constitution that replaced their rule, to Yellowstone Park and Zane Grey’s stories of the west, “A is for America” is a sweeping tribute to all we know and love about our country. With delightful poems that beg to be read aloud, and expository text to broaden a student’s horizons, this American alphabet will make you fall in love with the United States over and over again. Bright, beautifully detailed illustrations from California artist Pam Carroll bring each letter to life, from eagles to Thomas Edison to the veterans of two World Wars.

L Is for Liberty Wendy Cheyette Lewison

For more than a century, the Statue of Liberty has stood proudly in New York Harbor, welcoming people from near and far. Perfect for reading together with a young child, L Is for Liberty uses simple language and bold illustrations to celebrate the statue, her history, and the freedom she stands for.

F Is for Flag Wendy Cheyette Lewison

June 14 is Flag Day, but with so many American flags proudly displayed, every day seems like Flag Day. Perfect for reading together with a young child, F Is for Flagshows in simple terms how one flag can mean many things: a symbol of unity, a sign of welcome, and a reminder that-in good times and in bad-everyone in our country is part of one great big family.

A Is for America Tanya Lee Stone

Little ones will love learning American history in Tanya Lee Stone’s latest alphabet book. Rhyming couplets that flow through the alphabet help kids celebrate everything from the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence to Thomas Jefferson and Harriet Tubman!

America : A Patriotic Primer by Lynne Cheney

America: A Patriotic Primer is a succinct history of the United States, an ABC of the principles on which this country was founded, and a book for children and families to pore over, discuss, and cherish.
A is for America,
the land that we love.
B is for the Birthday
of this country of ours….
To choose the twenty-six people and ideas that comprise the book, Lynne Cheney has drawn on a lifetime of learning about the American past, and on the inspiration that comes from witnessing recent history firsthand. Illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser imbues Mrs. Cheney’s words with childlike joy through her exuberant drawings. Together they have created a patriotic primer, a book that teaches history by celebrating the diversity, tenacity, and faith of the American people.

Our 50 States by Lynne Cheney

Our 50 States — the greatest family vacation imaginable. Pack your bags and celebrate our diverse heritage state by state and sea to shining sea in this treasure trove of America’s people, places, and history

The Star-Spangled Banner by Peter Spier

Due to careful research, Spier’s artwork depicts “the dawn’s early light” and “the rocket’s red glare” with remarkable authenticity and detail in this celebratory book. Among the highlights: a brief history of the anthem, a reproduction of Francis Scott Key’s original manuscript, music for guitar and piano chords and many photographs. A Child Study Children’s Book Committee: Children’s Book of the Year, An American Bookseller Pick of the Lists.

And really, anything from the Ellis the Elephant series!
