We love the summer reading program at our local library. I would HIGHLY encourage you to see if your local library has one and get the kids involved in it this summer. Our starts today so we’re headed off this morning to get started.
Retailers sponsor summer reading incentives for kids too! Check out Barnes and Noble and Books-a-Million. Both are offering FREE books for participating in summer reading!

Half Priced Books – The Half Price Books summer reading program for kids 14 and under gives out free Half Price Books gift cards to kids who read for at least 300 minutes during the months of June and July. The Half Price Books summer reading program for 2016 is called Feed Your Brain Summer Reading Program and it runs from June 1 to July 31, 2016.
Chuck E. Cheese – 10 FREE Tokens when kids complete the Reading Rewards chart! (Food purchase is required with free token redemption)
HEB Summer Reading Club – sponsored by HEB grocery stores. Get a prize for reading 10 books this summer.
Family Christian Stores – Get a FREE book when you read any six Christian books and explain one of the faith messages from each book in their Reading Adventures Diary.
Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge – Kids can log their reading minutes from now until September 4th to earn prizes for their school!
Sylvan’s Book Adventure – When a child participates in Book Adventure, they get to take quizzes over books they’ve read and then exchange their quiz points for prizes!
TD Bank $10 for 10 – If you have a TD Bank near you, kids can get $10 in their Young Savers account for reading 10 books!

It looks like 10 books is the standard for most of these challenges (other than the ones that require a certain amount of minutes. I’ve got no issues with letting the same 10 books count for each program. Or letting the books they read for the library summer reading go towards one of the retailer programs. Double or triple the incentive for the kids to get their reading done! But if you want to make them read different books for each challenge, that’s cool too! ;)
