Because I’m Scared of Stingrays…

This little guy is awesome.  I’m biased, because I’m his Mom.  But he’s still the most awesome 5 year old I know.  I love the conversations we have.  His brain is CONSTANTLY churning.

This conversation we had last night just made me laugh at the absurdity of it.  And for the record, he was not watching anything about sting rays, we had not read anything about sting rays, nor had we been anywhere that there had been sting rays.  So why he was thinking about sting rays, I don’t know.

But here’s how the conversation went:

“Mommy, do sting rays sting to protect themselves?”

“Yes, I believe that’s how it works.”

“Well, I’m scared of sting rays.”

“You don’t have anything to be afraid of. They can’t leave the ocean.”

“But what if I get in the ocean?”

“You have to go pretty far to find the sting rays. You’ll be fine if you stay close to the beach.”

“But what if when I’m a …grown up and I’m a scuba diver? Then I’ll be scared of sting rays.”

“Well, then don’t be a scuba diver.”

“But what if someone makes me be a scuba diver?”

“No one is going to make you be a scuba diver if you don’t want to be.”

“Good. Because I’m scared of sting rays.”

I’m glad we were able to clear that up. :)
