Kids’ Thanksgiving Craft: Handprint Mayflower

I love crafts that use little handprints!   Here’s a fun way to use handprints to make ships.  For Thanksgiving it can be the Mayflower (however, to Bug, it’s a pirate ship!)

You will need:

brown craft paint or brown construction paper
blue craft paint or blue crayon (paint or color the water)
white cotton balls
glue
white paper

The easiest way to do it is to color blue water and draw off the shape of your child’s hand onto brown construction paper.  Cut it out and glue it on top of the “water”.

I love to do it with brown paint!  (My tip for painting hand prints is don’t let them smush their hand in the paint and press it on the paper – you’ll get a blobby mess.  Spread the pain on with a paint brush thinly, then press it on the paper.)   If you paint the water, let it dry before you paint the handprint.

Glue white cotton balls in the sky for “clouds” (I usually tear cotton balls into a few pieces.  Makes for fluffier clouds.)

Cut out some white “sails” and glue them to the “masts” (fingers).  If you do paint, you’ll have to wait for it to dry.
