Ahoy there! Do you have a little aspiring pirate at home? I do! Bug took an interest in pirates after we saw Peter Pan and Captain Hook at Disney on Ice last fall. Then we discovered Jake and the Pirates on Disney Jr., The Pirates who Don’t Do Anything on Veggietales and countless other “pirate-themed” episodes of our favorite cartoons like Bob the Builder and Blue’s Clues. So there’s a lot of “Arrrgh’s” and “Ahoy’s” going on at our house.
I knew Bug needed a Pirate costume to add to our “pretend box” (yes, we have a box of dress up clothes – it’s just as important for boys to pretend dress up as it is for girls!).
I browsed pirate costumes for a boy at Costume SuperCenter and found the Elite Pirate Captain Child Costume. I knew it was perfect! It was very classic pirate looking – not dirty, scraggly hair, Pirates of the Caribbean looking – but very Captain Hook like. And, of all the costumes we looked at, it had the best hat. :)
It comes with a hat, eye patch, plastic sword, coat, shirt/vest combo, pants, earring and boot tops. Bug loves it! I had to get a size larger than he’s actually in, so he can’t wear the shirt and pants yet (which is kind of okay with me because I’d be dressing and undressing him all day. Everything else he can get on and off with little assistance)
I was very impressed with the quality of this costume. Very well made. The eye patch strap broke the second time Bug wore it but anyone with any sewing skills could put it back together. Unfortunately, that’s not me but we had a real eye patch (the kind you can pick up at the pharmacy) so we just use that to play with. Everything else is very well made and will certainly stand up to lots of play. (And let me tell you, it’s getting lots of play!)
I hope you will check out Costume SuperCenter for all your costume needs!
