Using Walmart’s overage policy – all this for just $.29!

20120219-173352.jpg I love Walmart’s clearance racks for kids clothes!  Found a shirt for Bug this weekend for just $1.50.  BUT since I was there with my coupons for a few other things, I’m going to tell you how I got this shirt AND everything else for just  $.29!!!

If you don’t already know, Walmart’s coupon policy allows for overage.  When the amount of your coupon exceeds the items price.  Stores can do two things – adjust the amount taken off by the coupon to only be the cost of the item or take off the FULL amount of the coupon including what exceeds the amount of the item – that is called “overage”.  Most stores have it in their policy to adjust the coupon down.  Which really isn’t fair because when they send it in for reimbursement they will get the full amount of the coupon back.

Walmart’s coupon policy expressly states that they will redeem the coupon at the value of the coupon NOT the value of the item – allowing to you apply the overage to your total.

So here is everything I got at Walmart:

Travel Size Degree $.97
Travel Size Pantene x 2 $.97 ea
Travel Size Tide $.97
Vaseline Total Moisteure 3oz x3 $.97 ea

-$2 off Tide coupon (from home mailer)
-$2 off 2 Pantene (from home mailer)
-$1 off any Degree (from home mailer)
(3) x -$1 off any Vaseline Total Moisture 3oz+ from 1/29 RP

That’s $8 in coupons for products that only cost $6.79!  That’s overage of $1.21.

Throw in my $1.50 shirt to add back the -$1.21 transaction and everything only cost me $.29!
