Did you know that currently in America 1 in 6 Americans does not have enough food to eat, including nearly 14 million children? Or that in 2010 4.8% or 5.6 million households accessed food from a food pantry one or more times? And the numbers continue to climb as Feeding America reports they have seen an increase of 46% of food assistance needed since 2010 resulting in a greater need for food or monetary donations.

The Mavens of Money, a large group of women bloggers, have joined forces to promote a virtual food drive. Since Feeding America can make 8 meals out of every $1 donated we are working together to raise $1,500 or 12,000 meals for America’s hungry. That is enough meals for three families of four for an entire year.

In addition we are asking you, our readers, to get involved and help raise food donations for your local food pantry. Pick up an extra box of pasta or add a few cans of vegetables to your cart the next time you are at the grocery store. Every donation helps and every donation is needed. By being frugal and using sales to help stock up your home you can also help stock up the food pantries.

So join the Mavens of Money reach our goal of helping Feed America!
